The Hat – Mykonos’ Unofficial Passport

It was the summer of 2021, when Mykonos had just begun to fill up again after the long lockdowns. But in mid-July, the Greek government announced something that sounded almost like a joke to those already on the island: a ban on music in all venues, as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID.

For most visitors, it felt absurd,  but for the young Italians, who traditionally flood the island during that time, it was almost an insult to the very reason they came. The party stopped abruptly, but the will to celebrate did not.

At T-Bar, we’ve always believed that custom products are, above all, a form of communication between people. So, we decided to turn this collective energy into a message. We created two designs:

  • A t-shirt that read “Fight for your right to party”.
  • A cap featuring the customer’s name followed by the phrase “is in Mykonos”.

The cap caught on instantly. It was more practical, more visible, and its message was everywhere. From the beach to the winding alleys of Chora. Wearing it became a way for people to declare their presence on the island, while also showing their frustration at the enforced “silence.”

At the same time, groups of people took to the streets with portable speakers, creating spontaneous street parties. Instagram photos and stories spread quickly across the Italian social media scene, and the cap became the unofficial emblem of this small “rebellion.”

From that summer onwards, its fame exploded in Italy. Every year, more and more visitors arrive in Mykonos already knowing they need to get one. It’s not just an accessory It’s a statement.

Today, the cap is more than just a T-Bar product; it’s an unofficial passport to Mykonos. If you wear it, everyone knows you’ve lived the experience. And like any good passport, it has no expiry date. It carries with it the summer you spent here, forever.
